IN-CLASS ONLINE LESSON #7 ( First picture of the slideshow )

The picture is taken such that it is in black and white. It shows 3 soldiers, 1 who got hit by a bullet and is lying on the floor, while the other 2 are busy tending to his wounds. The background seems like a place where there was war. The floor is dirty and the background is very messy, common during the war times. Beside the injured soldier's left hand , we can see a M16 lying at the tip of his fingers. Blood is also flowing down from his head. The other soldier is trying the wrap the wound up using toilet paper. The shirts and the pants of these soldiers are very dirty and even have holes in them. The soldier in the left most corner is squating down, staring helplessly at the injured friend while holding his own gun such that it is facing the sky. The injured soldier seems as if he is in great pain. On his left are crumbs of what seems like cement from the half destroyed pillars and house.

Caffeine has beneficial effects on the body because it keeps us awake when we are rushing work. Without caffeine, we would be pushing ourselves too much so that we can keep awake. With caffeine, we can easily complete our work without feeling very tired. This saves time and enable us to sleep more. One example would be my father. Before he started drinking coffee, he would work until about 12am to 1am everyday. But when he started drinking coffee whenever he had lots of work to do, he could complete them by 11pm. This is because he could concentrate better without feeling sleepy. Thus is feel that caffeine is beneficial to us.

Do we still need heroes?

We still need heroes in our modern world because we would benefit from it. In my opinion, Heroes are people who have the courage , ability and willpower to do something that is right. The three main reasons why heroes would benefit us are that they can help us when we need help, they are good role models , and they stand up for justice.

Firstly, heroes are needed because they help us whenever we need help. For example, during economic crisis, natural disasters, war and lack of resources, we need this heroes to help lead us and direct us so that we can overcome this difficult times. One example would be from the show Spiderman. Whenever the city or anyone is in trouble, Spiderman , the hero in the movie, will be the one who save the day, defeated the bad guys such as the Sandman and rescuing certain victims. He is the hero of the town, maintaining peace and quiet so that people can live their normal lifes without constant fear of getting killed. Therefore we still need heroes as they help us during times of needs.

Secondly, heroes are important as they are good role models. They can differentiate between right and wrong and make decisions that benefits the majority because they have good moral values. People will learn the good moral values slowly without knowing because they idolize the heroes. One example would be Atticus from To Kill A Mocking Bird. He is the hero in the book who defends the innocent African American when the rest of the town people were bent on making this African American lose the court case. His children can learn from him through this incident that they should not discriminate blacks just because they do not belong here or because of their skin colour.

Lastly, heroes are needed because they stand up for justice. When he feels that the particular law or action is not fair, he will stand up and take his stand no matter the consequences. Bravery and a huge sense of justice is needed for people to do this. Without this heroes to stand up for what is right, there will be chaos. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus stood up for the black man Tom Robinson because he knew that he was innocent and had to help him. Despite the other white people despising him and insulting him because he was defending a black, he still wanted to uphold justice. In the end even though he lost the case, he still put up a good fight and did convey the message to everyone that blacks should not have any less rights just because of their different skin colour.

In conclusion, heroes are beneficial to us as they help us during times of need, make good role models and they stand up for justice.

In-Class 15-min Blog-Writing Prompt #11

We still need heroes. We need people with courage and good qualities to help lead us. We need this people to fight for us, make decisions for the vast people in the country. Without heroes, there will be no one brave enough to fight for our rights if a powerful and evil ruler was controlling us. There will not be leaders who lead us into revolting the government if unfair policies were put in place. Imagine this world being controlled by powerful leaders and there are no heroes to lend a helping hand to us or to revolt by bringing together everyone.

In-Class 15-min Blog-Writing Prompt #9

I have read To Kill A Mocking bird recently and found that the book was interesting and clearly depicts the scenario in America at that time where blacks were despised. This is a very educational book and the book challenged me to find out more about racism in America at that time. I would highly recommend this book to all my friends and let them have a taste of the situation in America at that time.

In-Class 15-min Blog-Writing Prompt #8

The most important thing that I have learn from the exercises is how to extract answers from the text. Analyzing texts to get the correct answers will take a very long time without any practise. To get any needed information from the passage quickly, we have to practice. As the old saying goes, " Practice makes Perfect ". After doing the 3 R&R exercises, I found myself completing the questions with greater speed and accuracy to the answers.

Racial slurs should be illegal.

Racial Slurs are also known as Ethnic Slurs. Racial Slurs should be illegal as it insults the ethnicity, causing the upcoming of many racial riots and it also reflects on your upbringing. Offending words such as Nigger , ABC ( Childish term for African bum-cleaner, can also be Aboriginal bum-cleaner by Australians. Obviously meant as an insult to any non-white person) and Nazi. Many do not know that calling the soldiers under Hitler Nazi's is a racial slurs. Even teachers teaching about WWII often use the term Nazi's to refer to the soldiers. Racial Slurs given to specific ethnic group to insult them just because they are of different skin colours. This would bring up the possibility of racial riots if an ethnic group could not tolerate anymore and “fight” with the other ethnic group. Insulting people shows that you have no manners and that your parents and teachers did not educate you well. Racial Slurs comes about when there is discrimination among ethnic groups.

REFLECTIONS!

When I was in primary school, Malays made up about 20% of my cohort. Some Chinese students did not like the Malays and formed a group to "fight" against the Malays, saying that they were smelly, dirty and stupid. All the malay students were unhappy about this incident. Some began to form anti-Chinese groups while the others just waited patiently for the school to settle the issue. Luckily the matter was not that big and did not went out of hand. People who took part in the "fights" were caught and disciplinary actions were given to those people involved. From this experience, although I did not took part in the fights, I learn that every race are equal. The only difference is that they have diffferent believes.
